theLingtangCorner

The story of theLintangCorner is one of transformation. It is the story of an ordinary house, almost identical to its neighbour, which becomes an outstanding testimony to human imagination. It is the story of everyday timbers and construction materials which become expressive works of art through trial and technique. It is the story of a bland streetscape in an old established area which becomes part of a vision to creatively and innovatively enrich a city. It is the story of a blank and featureless building which becomes a transformative space – showpiece, retreat, home.

Background

The Country View Hotel was believed to have been built in 1973; already part of Kuching’s skyline some ten years before Wisma Saberkas. In the 80s, it was sold and renamed as Impiana Hotel and operated for several years before closing down. There were sporadic attempts to revive it without much success. It was left vacant and derelict for more than 20 years until the 2nd of April 2022, when Tecktonic and Sons Holdings Sdn Bhd arrived with plans for its refurbishment and revival as a hotel.

Mission

Solo Timber Sdn Bhd secured the project in 2022, entrusted with a pivotal role: crafting the defining feature of the building—the facade.

Collaborating seamlessly with architects, engineers and other professionals, I ensured the feasibility of their designs while meeting client expectations.

In overseeing the implementation phase, I coordinated with my carpenters, welders and also other contractors.

Meticulously managing budgets and timelines, I navigated the construction process, steadfast in ensuring adherence to design specifications.

This multifaceted collaboration culminated in the realization of an iconic facade, a testament to precision, teamwork, and unwavering commitment.

Ang Cheng Ho House
